We started the company 2 years ago seeing the demand for a professional headlight restoration service as there was no real professional companies offering this service.
From launch we have had very good success with a lot of demand. Since we launched we have done over 250 cars with 0 comebacks. Our technique is not like the rest in the market, where they just buff your headlights clean. We actually sand down the damaged film layer of the headlight and restore the light back to factory/showroom condition and give each client a 2 year crystal-clear guarantee card.
Me and my partner had some good/bad luck as the day we started the company we both got promoted to bigger roles within our full time jobs and since then have just not been able to put any effort behind HLR group to really scale it, to it's full potential.
The company have huge scalability and a great opportunity to franchise the model as well. We have done cars at very well known dealerships and we still get constant daily bookings and a lot of referrals coming through from clients cars we've done.
We have also been in contact with shopping malls to open popup containers (like webuycars pods) whereby people could do grocery shopping while getting their headlights restored. A full restoration takes about 45min max.
We have also heard that they are busy trying to pass a law that your headlights need to be clear to pass roadworthy. As we are the the most well known headlight restoration group in the market the influx of restorations will be immense, once this law is passed.
We have also been in talks to get our company listed with insurance companies, as faded headlights can reduce 90% of visibility at night. Insurance companies can then include a free headlight restoration every year or two as this will ensure that the cars they insure have full visibility at night, causing less accidents, and payouts for them.
Currently we only operate as a mobile unit. You make a booking online and we come out to you, to restore your headlights. We have all equipment to execute this on site. The equipment/toolboxes include portable sanders, extra batteries, car wrapping films, yoco machines etc etc.
We have all our financials in place and signed off by accountants. We shot ourselves in the foot as 80% of our restorations were cash and 20% card. So we basically broke even on the financials for 2024 period as per bank account transactions. Hence the reason we can't also price the company at it's true potential price.
We are selling for the pure reason that my partner and I have tried multiple times to make time available to action goals and grow the company but balancing work life and personal life - there is just no time for this sadly. We would really like to sell the company to someone who is going to put full effort into this and scale in the market. We know the potential of the company and we want to still see it succeed in the market with the right person behind it.
Currently we have 3 restorers and a manger who operates the phone to take and secure all bookings. None of them are on a full time contract they all operate under commission. The booking manager gets X amount per booking, and the restorer gets X amount per restoration. We wanted to keep the expenses as low as possible, as we know that we can't dedicate our full time to this.
With this said, you can either take over all the restorers/current structure as-is, or we could provide full/complete training in the sale of how to restore headlights to factory/showroom condition. The business is basically a "plug & play" model meaning you can buy it today and start operating tomorrow. We are currently running Facebook and Google ads which works great. We spend about R2000 on Facebook (R50 per day) and R2000 on Google per month (R50 per day). There is still huge potential to scale this ads to much more spend, to get much more bookings per day.
We currently only operate in Gauteng area, but there is huge scope to open the exact same model in Cape Town, Durban and PE (we get A LOT of requests from here). We have spent an immense of time and money on SEO so our google rankings are good. As we don't have a physical location, we had to make sure our website gives across the type of service and clientele we service, so we also had to pay quite a huge amount to build and design this website with a complete booking system.
There is also great scope to look into opening a physical location as we get a lot of people phoning in, and they ask if they can bring their car in.
The current margins on a restoration is really good and there is still scope to improve this further.
The business is priced to sell quickly. There is no catch or no hidden T's and C's.
