However, there are fewer people in the UK deciding to get married. And department stores and high street shops are stocking bridal wear creating more competition.

There are, certainly, ways to rise to these challenges, though! If you adapt your business to the trends, your bridal shop can tap into this growing market.

The wedding industry 

In more recent years, customers shopping for a wedding dress have become more concerned with the experience they have at your shop. This is a way that you can still stand out from high street shops and department stores.

Providing your customers with a unique experience will make them more willing to spend money at your shop. There are several ways that you can do this.

You can offer free alterations, champagne and a well-decorated environment. Most importantly, however, you need to make the customer feel like all your attention in on them.

For most, a wedding is a once in a lifetime experience and you need to act accordingly- even if they are your thousandth customer.

Give you’re the people that come into your shop an ‘instagrammable’ environment that can form part of their whole wedding experience.

Find a niche

You can only attract customers if you know who your customers are. Define who it is that you are going to be selling your dresses to. This will help you know what to stock and what kind of experience to provide.

What kind of dresses will you be stocking? Will they be high-end designer dresses, vintage, unique dresses, or more affordable options?

You will need to do as much research as possible before you decide on what kind of service you will be providing. It will be dependent on your own preferences but also on the market that you are able to reach.

Choose the right business

These ways of approaching your bridal shop should form part of your decision as to which shop you buy.

If you are clear on what it is that you want your business to be, you can find that in the shop that you buy. You will often not find something that fits your image exactly but, if you only need to make small changes, you will have less start-up costs after buying your business.

Consider whether or not the shop will come with stock. If it does, you need to be sure that its current stock of dresses is not too out of date and is in line with your vision.
